Description -

The Nam Dok Mai Mango Plant (Grafted) variety is a moderately tall plant, reaching heights of up to 6 meters. It typically begins to bear fruit in the early to middle part of the season. This variety produces yellow, elongated fruits with a noticeable pointed end. It’s a variety that contains multiple embryos in its seeds.

The fruit’s flesh is particularly noted for its minimal fiber content, robust and delightful scent, and intense sweetness. It has an extended shelf life and thrives in all types of tropical weather conditions.

Nam Doc Mai Plant Growing Tips -

For optimal growth in moist, warm climates, here are some simplified tips for nurturing your plants:

  • Choose a pot with dimensions of at least 25×25 inches. The maximum size can be as large as you prefer.
  • While planting is possible year-round, the ideal time is June to July in drier regions and October to November in wetter areas.
  • The plant adapts to various soil types but thrives in well-aerated soils with a pH between 6.5 and 8.
  • Apply manure and fertilizer about two months before flowering. Keep fertilizers 45 to 90 cm from the trunk to avoid root damage.
  • Watering should be halted 30 days before harvesting to improve fruit quality.
  • Young plants benefit from nitrogen-rich fertilizers for growth.
Mature, fruit-bearing plants require fertilizers with more phosphorus and potassium to support flowering and fruit development.
  • For mature trees, use organic fertilizers with a high potassium content, such as a 5-8-10 blend.
Enhance soil with compost, which is rich in phosphorus and potassium.
  • Other organic sources include rock phosphate, guano, blood meal, or bone meal for phosphorus, and seaweed for potassium.

Additionally, here are a few more tips to ensure your plant’s health:

  • Ensure the plant receives ample sunlight, ideally 6-8 hours a day, for vigorous growth.
  • Regularly prune to maintain shape and remove any dead or diseased branches to encourage better air circulation and sunlight exposure.
  • Monitor for pests and diseases. Use organic pesticides or neem oil as a preventive measure to keep the plant healthy.
  • Mulch around the base of the plant to retain moisture, regulate soil temperature, and reduce weed growth.

By following these guidelines, you can help ensure your plant grows healthy and produces abundant fruit.

Plant Care Tips -

  • Ensure the plant receives more than 6 hours of direct sunlight daily for healthy growth.
  • Water the plant when the top 2-3 inches of soil feel dry to the touch.
  • Use soil that is well-drained, fertile, and rich in organic matter.
  • For the first year, apply an organic fertilizer once a month.
  • Once the plant is fully established, apply organic fertilizer 2-3 times a year, preferably before the flowering season begins.

Maximum Plant Height:

  • It can grow between 4 to 6 meters.

Flowering Period:

  • In the southern regions of India, flowering starts around November, while in the northern regions, it begins from February to March. The process from flowering to fruit maturity spans approximately 100 to 150 days.

Fruiting Time:

  • The plant will start producing edible fruits roughly 1.5 to 2 years after it has been acquired.

  1. Gently remove all packaging materials without disturbing the plant.
  2. Firmly press down the soil in the pot. If the soil level is low, add more garden mix to fill it up.
  3. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged.
  4. Overwatering can harm the plant, so allow the soil to dry out between waterings.
  5. If your plant is a climber or needs support, use a stick or moss stick to guide its growth upright.
  6. Ensure the plant gets plenty of bright, direct light for the first 10-15 days.
  7. Avoid transplanting it immediately, wait at least 1-2 months.
  8. If any branches were damaged during shipping, trim them off. This is an infrequent occurrence.
